FACES OF FAITH CD-ROM
 "I
have always been curious about religion.
It started while working for the Thomasville Times - I was
assigned to photograph a Baptist tent revival. I grew up Catholic,
so what I witnessed under that tent was very foreign to me.
It
was not the quiet solitude of the Catholic Church or the
beauty of the light coming through the stained glass windows
I remembered growing up. So, through different assignments
for the religion page of the newspaper, I became intrigued
with different churches and
beliefs.
In 2000 I won an emerging artist grant from the W-S arts council
to photograph storefront churches in the community. I photographed
5 different churches- some African-American, some Hispanic.
I ended up with a collection of images that transcended cultural
barriers. The photographs and sounds collected in these churches
are the same but with different colors of skin and different
languages.
I hope you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed creating
them.
